Two years ago, the St. Lucie County Tax Collector’s Office lost a beloved member of our work family, former Chief Operations Officer, Melanie Carter. Now we are paying tribute to her legacy. The Tax Collector’s office in Tradition will now be known as the “Melanie Crooks Carter Branch,” with crews beginning installation of signage that displays the new moniker in early October.
Carter spent her entire career working at the Tax Collector’s office, helping lead as Chief Operations Officer for many years before retiring in 2016. She was known for her charismatic, genuine way of assisting customers. Carter passed away in September, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. She was instrumental in bringing a third location to the organization by pushing the concept at the end of her tenure and helping in the early stages of the project.
“Melanie was such a significant part of this office for many years,” said Chris Craft, St. Lucie County Tax Collector. “This is one small way I feel we can honor her legacy.”
